California’s hub for Prescribed Burn Associations and
community based burning
Your local Prescribed Burn Association is a reflection of you and your neighbors
Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) are community based, mutual aid networks that help private landowners put “good fire” back on the land. The Cal PBA website is a one-stop location for PBAs in California - providing contact information and useful prescribed fire resources.
What is “good fire?"
Good Fire is planned fire, for specific outcomes, such as: wildfire reduction, invasive species control, ecological health and tribal/ cultural purposes.
What does one get/give by joining a PBA?
Being a part of your local PBA is similar in concept to a barn-raising or a calf-branding: neighbors help neighbors implement burns by providing labor, equipment and skills. The PBA can help with burn planning and organization, and provide additional prescribed fire equipment and specialized expertise.
Are all PBAs in California the same?
While PBAs in California may vary in style and flavor - with different names, training and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and organizational structures - they all share the common goal of facilitating community led burning that is ecologically minded, fun and safe.
The People Make the PBAs
None of this work is possible without collaboration, partnership, and dedication from people who care about their communities and landscapes. Fire is for everyone!
