Nevada County PBA
The Nevada County Prescribed Burn Association (NCPBA) is a California nonprofit dedicated to building a strong, connected community of prescribed fire practitioners across Nevada County.
Our mission is to support the safe, legal, and ecologically beneficial use of “good fire” on the landscape. We bring together private landowners, ranchers, forest stewards, and community members who are using prescribed fire as a tool for stewardship, resilience, and restoration.
Prescribed burning reduces wildfire risk, improves forest health, enhances native plant communities and wildlife habitat, supports rangelands, and strengthens community resilience.
We welcome participants of all experience levels—from complete beginners to seasoned burners. NCPBA fosters neighborhood burn groups, peer-to-peer learning, and hands-on experience, helping build the local capacity needed to put more good fire on the ground safely and effectively.
We work closely with partner organizations and agencies to expand prescribed fire across the region. The Nevada County Resource Conservation District is a key partner and serves as our fiscal sponsor. While the RCD leads prescribed fire education, training classes, landowner outreach, and site visits, NCPBA focuses on building community—connecting members and supporting practitioners through shared resources, experience, and labor.
