The Nevada County Resource Conservation District (NCRCD) has facilitated the formation of the Nevada County PBA to continue to build the community of prescribed fire practitioners in our area. Since our beginning in the 1940’s, we have supported prescribed burning in the county, originally by ranchers. We have renewed our prescribed fire program recently and are supporting prescribed burning by private landowners again in the county.
Building a community of engaged, “good fire” practitioners is our primary goal. We provide education, training, and technical assistance in how to burn safely, legally, and responsibly, in ecologically beneficial ways. We use good fire to improve fire safety, forest health, enhance native plants and habitat, and range.
We welcome community members of all experience levels from beginners to seasoned practitioners. Backed by the RCD, the PBA supports the development of neighborhood burn groups, provides education and training opportunities, and supports capacity building for ranchers, the local workforce, and other community groups to burn larger areas. We serve as a hub for other organizations and agencies putting good fire on the ground including the Yuba Bear Burn Cooperative.
